ASTM A240 UNS S31254 is an austenitic type of steel however it has greater strength when compared to other austenitic steels. They also offer good weldability and workability. These sheets are said to have higher strength and material due to which it is difficult to machine these 254 SMO Steel Plates. Cold reduction is the only process by which these plates can be hardened. They offer low magnetic permeability and are used in aircraft construction. SMO 254 Plates are available in the size range of 3 mm to 100 mm and the thickness of 0.3 mm to 120 mm. These plates offer high ductility and good impact strength.
ASTM A240 UNS S31254 Sheet is used in seawater, pulp mill bleach plants, brackish water, and chloride process streams. It is one of the most economical and cost effective sheets when compared to other sheets made up of different materials. UNS S31254 Plate has a melting range of 1320 degrees C to 1390 degrees C along with a density of 8 g/cm3. The process to cold work 6mo Plate is tough due to the high work hardening rate. However conventional methods can be used to cold work these plates. 1.4547 Plate is used food processing equipment, saltwater handling desalination, bleaching equipment, and chemical processing equipment.

#1–Hot rolled annealed and descaled. It is available in strip, foil and ribbon. It is used for applications where a smooth decorative finish is not required.

#2B–Smooth finish produced by cold rolling, annealing and descaling. A light cold rolling pass is added after anneal with polished rolls giving it a brighter finish than 2D.
#BA-Bright annealed cold rolled and bright annealed
#CBA-Course bright annealed cold rolled matte finish and bright anneal
#2BA–Smooth finish produced by cold rolling and bright annealing. A light pass using highly polished rolls produces a glossy finish. A 2BA finish may be used for lightly formed applications where a glossy finish is desired in the formed part.
