Plates made up of different alloys are available easily in the market. One such type of plate that is made up of ASTM A 753 alloy is known as ASTM A753 Alloy 4 Plate. They are used in applications that require high magnetic permeability. They are widely used in magnetic core. They offer low coercive field strength and high electrical resistivity. They offer low core costs and are said to be a soft magnetic alloy. UNS N14080 Strips are passed through a heat treatment in the last to retain the desired magnetic characteristic. It is made up of gorged bullets, strips, bars, or hot rolled plates.
Power metallurgically produced or cast parts are not covered under the ASTM A753 Alloy Type 4 Sheet specification. It requires the material to have isotope or semi isotopic magnetic properties. However, it does not include square hysteresis or anisotropic alloys. The machinability of ASTM A753 is enhanced by the addition of selenium and sulfur in trace amounts in these alloys. A standard value is the one that is stated in the SI unit. It offers high permeability at low induction thus yielding a superior magnetic shield of low flux density magnetic field.

#1–Hot rolled annealed and descaled. It is available in strip, foil and ribbon. It is used for applications where a smooth decorative finish is not required.
#2D–Dull finish produced by cold rolling, annealing and descaling. Used for deep drawn parts and those parts that need to retain lubricants in the forming process.
#2B–Smooth finish produced by cold rolling, annealing and descaling. A light cold rolling pass is added after anneal with polished rolls giving it a brighter finish than 2D.
#BA-Bright annealed cold rolled and bright annealed
#CBA-Course bright annealed cold rolled matte finish and bright anneal
#2-Cold Rolled
#2BA–Smooth finish produced by cold rolling and bright annealing. A light pass using highly polished rolls produces a glossy finish. A 2BA finish may be used for lightly formed applications where a glossy finish is desired in the formed part.
