Schedules are standard specifications that help in measuring the normal thickness of the wall of a pipes. The schedule number however depends upon the pipes size, the thickness of the wall, and internal working pressure and is said to be non-dimensional. Schedule 5 Steel Pipes is one such pipes that is used in low pressure applications. When compared to other schedule pipes the schedule 5 pipes wall thickness is said to be lower. The diameter of this pipes has a wide range. The nominal size range of this pipes ranges between ½ inch to 24 inches.
On the other hand, the sch 5 pipes wall thickness ranges between 0.065 mm to 0.288 mm. The weight range of these pipes is said to be 0.8 kg to 82.7 kg/m. The higher is the wall thickness to diameter ratio the better will be the pressure rating of that particular pipes. For instance, sch 5 pipes dimensions of 1 inch in size having an outer diameter of 33.4 mm, and a wall thickness of 2.90 mm will weigh 2.18 kg/m. Whereas, a schedule 5 pipes that is 8 inches in size having an outer diameter of 219.1 mm and a wall thickness of 7.04mm will weigh 36.81 kg/m.
schedule 5 pipe pressure rating depends upon the dimensions of the pipes. The thickness of these pipes is smaller when compared to other pipes. Due to this reason brittle grades do not have pipes in these schedules. The sch 5 pipesare made with an intention to be used in low pressure services. 5 pipes is widely used in water lines where pressure is low.
